How To Take Care Of Your Hair & Scalp

Hair, for both men and women plays an important part to ones appearance.  It is the finishing touch to every outfit and has an effect on how we feel about ourselves.  Women in particular feel that they are not properly dressed if their hair is not right.

So to keep the hair performing at its best we should look carefully at what we consume on a daily basis.  For hair that is shiny and healthy our daily nourishments should include adequate protein and iron.

Everyone, should be aware that water consumption plays a major part in the health of our hair and scalp.  It is advised that we try to drink between 8 to 10 glasses of water, daily.

When washing the hair, it is important that you adopt the correct method of using your fingertips to wash the hair and massage and concentrate on the scalp.

The method for appropriate hair wash is.

1. Wet your head (Try not to use hot water, when washing your hair, it could make your hair         dry and brittle).

2: Apply shampoo delicately onto your scalp and message, using your fingertips.

3: Wash the hair properly. Rinse clean.

4. Apply Conditioner of your choice (Millie's hair conditioner is great for afro hair. Use as a normal or deep conditioner). Moisturize the hair properly for 20 minutes or more, using a conditioning cap. Rinse Clean.  If your hair feels itchy it could mean that you didn’t rinse the hair properly or you may have dandruff. To avoid this, rinse again with water to remove the product thoroughly.

5: Use a towel or clean tee-shirt to dry the hair.

6: Comb gently and softly with a wide tooth comb.

It is important to note that everyone's hair reacts differently to various treatments.  Some people can take heat whilst others see a devastating reaction, when too much heat is applied to the hair.  Therefore, it is advised that you become accustomed to your hair and the kind of things that agree with or disagrees with it.

Having a daily routine can be advantageous to the health of your hair and scalp.  By massaging the scalp for a minute each day will help blood circulate to the scalp, which is extra nourishment and will help to encourage natural oils and kill dead scalp tissue.

Do not comb wet hair with a fine tooth comb, this will lead to breakage as the hair is at its weakest when wet.  Always keep your combs and brushes clean.

When swimming, the chemicals in the swimming pools can have a drying affect on the hair, causing it to become brittle and often breakage occurs.  As a prevention method wear a swimming cap and wash and condition the hair immediately, to remove all signs of chlorine from the hair.

Prevent, frequently straightening the hair.

How often should I wash my hair?
This depends on your hair routine.  If you have always washed your hair once a week and you get great results, then continue to do so.
Some people may have to wash their hair more frequently because they find that it gets limp and dirty and therefore they may wash it after a few days.
